Janet Howe

Janet Howe was born on November 3, 1803 in Waterford, Oxford County, Maine, daughter of Moses and Elizabeth Howe.
Janet married Lieut. Joseph Hale, son of Benjamin Hale and Susanna Whitney, on August 15, 1822 in Waterford, Oxford County, Maine.²
The census of 1850 shows: Lieut. Joseph Hale, 52, a shoemaker with $900 real estate; and Janette Hale, 46;
living at Waterford, Oxford County, Maine.³
The census of 1860 shows: Lieut. Joseph Hale, 63, a shoemaker with $1200 real estate and $500 personal estate; and Jeanette Hale, 58;
living at Waterford, Oxford County, Maine.⁴
The census of 1870 shows: Lieut. Joseph Hale, 73, a shoemaker with $2,000 real estate and $400 personal estate; and Janette Hale, 68, housekeeper;
living at Lovell P.O., Waterford, Oxford County, Maine.
Also in the family was Hannah B. Howe, 68, housekeeper from Massachusetts.⁵
The census of 1880 shows: Lieut. Joseph Hale, a shoemaker and farmer; and Jeanette Hale
living at Waterford, Oxford County, Maine.
Also in the household was a boarder, Hannah B. Howe, 78, from Massachusetts.⁶
Janet died on March 23, 1884 in Waterford, Oxford County, Maine, at age 80.
She was buried in Elm Vale Cemetery, Waterford, Oxford County, Maine.

Jeroboam married Abigail Plumer, daughter of Capt. Abel Plumer son of Elder Abel Plumer and Elizabeth Hale, and had ten children, five of whom died in infancy.²
Jeroboam Howe and Abigail Plumer lived at Lowell, Massachusetts.³
