- In 1833, Samuel Perley Strickland moved to Bangor, Penobscot County, Maine, where he partnershiped with Maj. Amasa Crafts.1
- In 1834, Samuel Perley Strickland and Hastings Strickland were lumber merchants. Their mills were extensive, they handled large forests, and manufactured millions of feet of lumber. In 1850, they dissolved, each pursuing the same business and taking his son as partner.4
