Rufus Dow was born on January 1, 1849 in Ashland, Grafton County, New Hampshire, son of Ferren Dow and Ruth B. Huckins.
Rufus married Abbie O. Sawyer, daughter of Elisha Smith Sawyer and Susan C. Woodbury, in 1871.
Rufus died on January 12, 1935 in Laconia, Belknap County, New Hampshire, at age 86.
