  • He was the son of Andrew Fairbanks and Anne Augusta Houghton.1
  • Warren Herbert Fairbank lived on the old homestead, which had been for generations occupied by his ancestors.3
  • The census of 1855 shows:

    Rachel Houghton
    living at Harvard, Massachusetts.4

  • The census of 1860 shows:
    Warren H. Fairbanks, 9, attending school; in the household of
    Andrew Fairbank, 36, a farmer with $4000 real estate and $1000 personal estate; and
    Ann A. Fairbanks, 29;
    living at Harvard, Massachusetts.5

  • In early life he had a desire for an education, which was not encouraged by his father who, having been successful as a farmer, wished his son to follow in his footsteps.3
  • The census of 1870 shows:
    Warren H. Fairbanks, 18, a farm laborer; in the household of
    Artemas Fairbanks, 82, a farmer with $2000 real estate and $2000 personal estate;, Also living there were Minnie French, 13, without occupation, attending school; and Emily Merriam, 41, keeping house;
    living at West Berlin P.O., Harvard, Massachusetts.2

  • He taught school three terms, and then entered the Mass. Institute of Technology, where he remained two years, intending to become a civil engineer. But his father urged him to remain at home and join him in the management of the farm. This he consented to do, and he prospered. The large and commodious mansion is jointly occupied by his own and his father's family.3
  • Warren Herbert Fairbank was educated at Winchendon Acadamy, Winchendon, Massachusetts, for one term3
  • and at Lancaster Academy, Lancaster, Massachusetts, for one term.3
  • Warren married Catherine Alice Houghton, daughter of Marcellus Houghton and Catherine Charlotte Fogg, on September 14, 1876. They were second cousins. Catherine was a resident of Concord.3
  • The census of 1880 shows:
    Warren H. Fairbank, a farmer; in the household of
    Andrew Fairbanks, a farmer; and
    Ann A. Fairbank
    living at Harvard, Massachusetts.6

  • Warren Herbert Fairbank was elected as Selectman for three years; Assessor seven years. He was a member of the School Committee fourteen years; trustee of the Public Library eleven years; trustee of the Warner Free Lecture Fund of ten thousand dollars; and trustee of the Bromfield Academy for ten years; chairman of the building Committee of the Public Library. He has peculiar gifts as a presiding officer, and has served for many years as Moderator of Town and other public meetings.3
  • Warren Herbert Fairbank was a man of good mental ability, and one of the most prominent citizens
    of the town.3
  • The census of 1900 shows: Warren H. Fairbank, 23, a farmer; and Katherine A. Fairbank, 23, mother of 3, of whom 2 were still living; listed with Alice A. Fairbank and Mildred E. Fairbank
    living at Harvard, Massachusetts.
    Also living there were Helen C. Farnsworth, 23, a boarder and school teacher; and Frank Flynn, 25, a servant, farm laborer from Ireland.7
