Joanna Corbin was born on February 28, 1838 in what was Virginia, now Booth Creek, Taylor County, West Virginia.
Joanna married Thomas Jefferson Rawson, son of Ellet Rawson and Maryann King, on December 25, 1861 in Ritchie County, West Virginia.
She mad a public profession of faith at age 18, and united with the Hepsebah Baptist Church in Ritchie County, W. Va., and remained a faitherful member until she moved to Elizabeth, when she took membership in the Elizabeth Baptist Church.
The census of 1870 shows: Thomas J. Rawson, 31, a miller with $10,550 real estate and $1950 personal estate; and Joanna Rawson, 32, keeping house; listed with William L. Rawson, Albert G. Rawson, John W. Rawson, Burley P. Rawson and Thos. Davis Rawson
living at Harrisville, Ritchie County, West Virginia.
Also living there were two farm laborers: Jacob Wigner, 19; and G. F. Wolards, 35.¹
On Nov 22, 1909 she and her husband went to Gassaway to spend a few weeks with their son, B.H. Rawson, where she had a third paralytic stroke.
Joanna died on December 10, 1909 in Gassaway, Virginia, at age 71.
She was buried in K of P Cemetery, Elizabeth, Wirt County, West Virginia.
